Research Interests
Dr. Azar is interested in the mechanisms that prevent corneal neovascularization, a condition in which undesired blood vessels develop in the cornea, usually in response to a lack of oxygen. This vascularization process must be stopped, or at least diminished, if vision is to be preserved. He is a leading corneal surgeon who has developed mathematical modeling and novel techniques in refractive and other corneal and anterior segment surgeries.

John SM Chang Jr., MD  

 

 

 

Dr John Chang was trained in Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute UCLA. He then went to USCF and did a fellowship there.  He returned to Hong Kong and entered into private practice to serve the people of Hong Kong.  Dr Chang is a Past President of the Hong Kong Association of Private Eye Surgeons.  He is also an Associate Clinical Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr Chang is presently the Director of the Guy Hugh Chan Refractive Surgery Centre of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital and has been interested in Cataract and Refractive Surgery for many years.  He is a Clinical Instructor for LASIK Surgery, Intra Corneal ring, Conductive Keratoplasty, Phakic Intraocular Lens such as Iris clip and posterior chamber Implantable Contact Lens.  He frequently runs courses to teach Doctors in the regions to perform the latest and cutting edge surgeries.  

 He is also active in teaching the medical students at the University of Hong Kong.  He is on the International Committee, of the International Refractive Surgery Society (American Academy of Ophthalmology) and is on the Editorial Board of  "Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today".  He has also been awarded the “Certified Educator Award” by the APCRS, and “Achievement Award” by the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Professor John Marshall

Frost Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Academic Department of Ophthalmology at St Thomas’ Hospital. He was formerly Sembal Professor of Experimental Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology between 1982 and 1991 and his research has resulted in the revolutionary patented Excimer laser for the correction of refractive disorders. Over ten million correction procedures have taken place worldwide. His research also created the world’s first Diode laser for treating eye problems of diabetes, glaucoma and ageing. Recently he has developed and patented a unique retinal biometric analysis system which is being exploited by government and private security agencies worldwide. Well recognised and much awarded for services in the field of both ophthalmology and optometry, he has held posts both chairing and serving on the medical advisory board of a number of international companies.
